Meatpacking / West Village

MEATPACKING/WEST VILLAGE
Instead of Ono, try Sumile Sushi

Though Ono has a great chef—Kazuhiko “Kazu” Hashimoto, formerly of Megu—the place is located in the middle of Meatpacking hell, on the ground floor of the Hotel Gansevoort. Not too far away, an alum of Tokyo’s Ginza Sushi has just begun to work at Sumile Sushi (154 W 13th St between Sixth and Seventh Aves, 212-989-7699). From behind the bar up front (formerly the cocktail area), he dispenses fingers of rice streaked with inky black caviar or topped with yellowtail and slivers of spicy pickled cantaloupe.
